Probably the first thing you want to get is a protective case for your ipod. No matter what kind of ipod you have you will be able to find a case to fit it. Even if you have one of the older models it should not be a problem at all. The cases vary in price from just a few dollars to a few thousand depending on your budget and your tastes. I have seen snakeskin and alligator skin ipod protectors, I have seen Swarovsky crystal cases and I have seem gummy rubber ones. It is all a matter of personal style.
If you have a car then you may want to look for am adapter that will allow you to play all of the songs on your in the car. This way you will never have to deal with trying to find the cd you are looking for, or trying to get it in while at a stoplight. All of that fiddling and searching is dangerous when you are trying to drive, it is much easier to be able to just plug in your ipod and go and that is what some of the new ipod accessories can do for you.
